What is Spiritual Direction? Spiritual Direction is the ancient art of spiritual companionship or "tending the holy". Spiritual direction invites a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human. A spiritual director helps the person notice and respond to the movement of God as experienced in prayer, contemplation, scripture, and in the events of ordinary life. The director listens deeply to sacred story, creates sacred space, and helps you to look at your relationship with the holy as it is lived out in everyday life.
What is my Training in Spiritual Direction? I am a graduate of the Mercy Center's Spiritual Direction Internship program in Burlingame, California and am was trained at the Haden Institute in North Carolina, a two year spiritual direction program in the Jungian Mystical Christian tradition. I also trained with Christine Paintner and Betsey Beckman in their Awakening the Creative Spirit program for spiritual directors, participated in the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life, a nine month experiential retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola, and studied for two years in San Francisco Theological Seminary's part time program in Pasadena, California.
My own spiritual journey has led me on pilgrimages to Russia and Chartres, France, to Buddhist monasteries in Japan, and on two Vision Quests in Montana. My faith tradition is within the Episcopal Church, but I am glad to work with people from other denominations and faiths as well.
In addition to my training in Spiritual Direction, I also am a Certified Expressive Arts Practitioner, a Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator, a SoulCollage™ Facilitator and Creativity Coach. I am particularly interested in the intersection between spirituality and creativity.
